The Irish Red Cross is part of the largest global network of voluntary humanitarian action in the world – the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – which has a national organisation in nearly every country in the world – some 189 Red Cross or Red Crescent societies in total. The Irish Red Cross provides voluntary Ambulance Services, Mountain and Lake Search and Rescue Services, and a broad variety of Community Based Health, Social Care and Youth programmes here in Ireland.
The local branch was established in November 1982 and has provided first aid services to many events over the years. Practical First Aid courses are organised twice a year for the general public. Training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are conducted on a regular basis for the Cardiac First Response (CFR) programme in the parish.
