7 – The Leo Murphy Monument
He was shot dead on the 27th of June 1921. Leo was a leader and an active member of the Republican movement. He was in waterfall public house when the Crown forces arrived. Tradition has it that when Leo went to make his escape out the back door, it was locked. This forced him to make his escape out the front door, and sneak along down by the ditch. He decided to cross the road, was spotted, a bullet rang out and brave Leo Murphy fell. To this day a monument stands where Leo died.
